Ms. Paige Turner is just plunging into this web 2.0 world! She actually created a twitter account today and she plans to tweet! She hasn't tweeted yet because she can't find anyone with whom to tweet! Perhaps one of her sons will tweet with her.
Ms. Turner would like to take this opportunity to express her appreciation to her four sons who have supported her throughout her technology experiences. Her sons are amazed at the progress their technology-challenged mother has made in the last few months and like to recall that a few years ago she could not even set the timer on the VCR. To their credit, she has learned how to email, to text, to blog, to post, to IM and now to tweet - such wonderful accomplishments!
Ms. Turner would also like to thank those who are responsible for setting up the NT 23 challenge too. She would not have taken these steps to set up accounts and explore the different venues without the challenge. Thank you for spending your time helping those like Ms. Turner go Web 2.0!
One cannot be sure how Twitter will be used within the library space, especially since Twitter (and many other web 2.0 technologies) will be blocked in the public school library. At a conference led by David Warlick last year, Ms. Turner learned of Twitter. David Warlick used twitter to expand the discussion by showing the twitter space to those of us who were attendees. Many tweeting attendees were posting comments and questions on Twitter and Mr. Warlick used this medium to keep the discussion on topics the audience found interesting.
Addendum: Ms. Turner spoke with her son about Twitter. He is using Twitter in his job as a pastor of a church by tweeting reminders and announcements to his congregation! That idea could be applied to the library as well. Tweet new book titles, announcements, reminders of upcoming events, etc.
